DAILY DEVOTIONAL

“Chasing Jesus or Walking With Him?”

SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY

“As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.” — Colossians 2:6 (ESV)

Some new believers come out of the baptistry with so much fire you can almost feel the heat. And while that excitement is wonderful, it can fade fast when it isn’t rooted in Christ.

Here’s a truth we don’t often say out loud: some people aren’t burning — they’re bursting. And bursts don’t last.

If your faith burns out quickly, it wasn’t holy fire — it was fireworks.
Fireworks are bright and loud, but they don’t warm you, guide you, or stay with you when the nights get cold.

A lot of Christians begin their journey by chasing Jesus — chasing the next spiritual thrill, the next emotional moment, the next charismatic voice online. But the problem is this: Jesus isn’t running.

He’s walking, and He invites us to walk with Him.

Walking may not look as exciting as chasing, but it’s how real disciples grow. It’s slow, steady, faithful, daily obedience. You don’t mature because you ran fast — you mature because you stayed close.

The Christian life isn’t a sprint. It isn’t a chase.
It’s a walk with the Savior who refuses to leave your side.

Chasing Jesus may feel exciting, but it leaves you exhausted. Walking with Jesus may feel simple, but it leaves you transformed. Ask yourself today: Am I chasing moments, or am I walking with the Master? One fades. The other forms Christ in you.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, slow me down where I’ve been chasing spiritual feelings instead of walking faithfully beside You. Teach me to stay close, steady, and grounded in Your Word. Let my faith be fire, not fireworks — something lasting, shaping, and pleasing to You. Amen.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“If your faith burns out fast, it wasn’t fire — it was fireworks.”

Walk in faith, rest in grace, and trust the One who walks beside you.
