A long time ago, after the great flood, people began to move to different parts of the earth. They all spoke the same language, which made it easy to work together. One day, the people found a beautiful land called Shinar. They decided to settle there.

As they looked around the land, they had a big idea. "Let's build a city that reaches up to the heavens," one of them said. "Yes, let's build a huge tower so tall that everyone will know how great we are!" the others agreed. They wanted to make themselves famous and not be scattered across the earth.

So, they started building a city and a gigantic tower. They used bricks and tar for mortar. Up and up the tower went, and the people were very proud of their work. But they forgot one important thing—they forgot about God.

God looked down at the city and the tower. He saw that the people were only thinking about themselves and not about Him. God knew that if they all continued to speak the same language, nothing could stop their selfish plans.

So, God decided to mix up their language. Suddenly, the workers couldn't understand each other anymore! When someone asked for a brick, another brought mud. It became so confusing that they had to stop building the tower.

Because they couldn't talk to each other, the people spread out all over the world, just as God had wanted. The unfinished city was called Babel, which means "confusion," because it was there that God confused the language of the whole world.

Activity

- Colored paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers or crayons

Instructions:

1. Gather your building blocks or cups and make sure you have enough to build a tall tower.
2. Use the colored paper to create small decorations for your tower. You can cut out little flags or people.
3. Color the decorations with markers or crayons to make them more cheerful and colorful.
4. Begin stacking your blocks or cups to make a tower.
5. As you build, pause and try speaking in silly sounds or in a fun, made-up language to see how confusing it might have been during the Tower of Babel!
6. Once your tower is complete, glue or stick your paper decorations onto the tower to make it special.

This activity helps you think about how important it is to work together and communicate well, just like we need to do with God.
