Bible Stories for Kids - Waking in Faith
Once upon a time, there was a brave man named Peter. Peter was one of Jesus's closest friends, and he loved to be around Jesus and learn from Him. One day, after a long day of teaching people by the sea, Jesus told His friends to get into a boat and go ahead to the other side while He stayed back to pray.
As Peter and the others rowed across the water, the night grew dark and the wind started blowing. Suddenly, they saw something amazing. Jesus was walking towards them, but not on land—He was walking on the water! All the men were scared, thinking they might be seeing a ghost. But Jesus called out to them, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
Peter, feeling a rush of faith, shouted back, "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water." Jesus replied, "Come." So Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on the water towards Jesus. Can you imagine how exciting that was for Peter?
But then, Peter noticed the strong wind and began to feel afraid. When he became scared, he started to sink into the water. "Help me, Lord!" he cried. Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. "You of little faith," Jesus said gently, "why did you doubt?"
Once Jesus helped Peter back to the boat, the wind calmed down. The other friends on the boat were in awe and said, "Truly you are the Son of God."
This story teaches us that we should have faith and focus on Jesus, especially when we feel scared or unsure.
Activity
Game: Faith Walk
Materials Needed:
A blindfold
A small space clear of obstacles
A trusted adult or friend
Instructions:
Find a safe, open space where you can walk around without bumping into anything.
Choose one player to wear the blindfold. This person will be "walking in faith."
Have the blindfolded player stand at one end of the space. The other players stand at various points towards the opposite end.
The unblindfolded players will guide the blindfolded player across the space only by saying encouraging words like, "You can do it!" or "Keep going!"
The goal is for the blindfolded player to walk across the space without sight, trusting only in the voices guiding them, just as Peter trusted Jesus when walking on the water.
Take turns being blindfolded and guiding others.
