Walking with Jesus
Guard the Spring

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” — Proverbs 4:23

Solomon didn’t say guard your schedule or your reputation. He said guard your heart. Why? Because he understood a simple truth about life: everything is downstream from what’s happening inside you.

“Above all else” is priority language. Your heart is the spring. And springs don’t lie. Whatever feeds them eventually shows up in the water.

If worry constantly pours in, fear will eventually flow out. If you rehearse old hurts, you’ll speak from wounded places. If comparison becomes your steady diet, contentment won’t survive.

But the opposite is just as real.

When you begin your day in God’s Word instead of the noise of the world, something steadies. When you turn complaints into prayers, something softens. When you choose gratitude — even for small mercies — your perspective changes.

Guarding your heart isn’t about hiding from life. It’s about stewardship. It’s about paying attention to what you allow to take root.

Tend the spring. Cut off what poisons it. Feed what strengthens it. Protect it like it matters — because it does.

If the water downstream is bitter, you don’t fix it at the riverbank. You go back to the source.

Today, guard your heart faithfully. Let God’s truth be the loudest voice in your life.

Everything downstream depends on it.
