Laying Everything at His Feet
“A fool expresses all his emotions, but a wise person controls them.”
Proverbs 29:11
Emotions are a gift from God. They’re real, and they matter. Joy, compassion, even anger—they remind us we’re alive. But like any gift, they need wisdom.
Most of us have said things we regret in the heat of the moment. We’ve reacted out of hurt. We’ve let frustration speak before prayer had a chance. Emotions can rise like waves, fast and strong. This verse reminds us the goal isn’t to pretend we don’t feel. It’s to slow down long enough to bring those feelings to God and let Him guide our response.
Emotions are a lot like fire. Handled well, they bring warmth and light. Left unchecked, they burn everything around them. God doesn’t ask us to shut down our hearts. He asks us to place them in His hands. In His care, anger can turn into understanding, and hurt can turn into healing.
When you feel your emotions rising, pause and pray first. Give God room to steady you. He’ll give you peace and strength you didn’t have a moment before.
Real strength isn’t hiding what we feel. It’s letting God shape how we respond. Kindness, patience, and self-control don’t come naturally—they come from walking closely with Him.
And that’s what sets a wise person apart.
Walk in faith, rest in grace, and trust the One who walks beside you.
