“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” - Proverbs 17:22
Some mornings, joy feels far away. You wake up tired, already carrying worry or disappointment before your feet hit the floor. Verses about joy can sound out of reach, like something you should have but just cannot find. But Proverbs 17:22 is not a demand. It is an invitation. God sees every burden you carry. He meets you with kindness, not pressure. He gives you room to be honest about what hurts.
A cheerful heart is good medicine because it lets God reach the places that hurt most. Joy is not pretending everything is fine. It is being honest about what is broken and choosing to trust God anyway. Even when you do not see change, He is still good. He is still working. He is still writing hope into your story.
Most days, that medicine is simple. It is a real laugh with a friend. Sunlight on your face as you walk. A worship song at just the right time. Sometimes it is just a quiet reminder that you are not alone. These small gifts are God’s way of bringing hope back to tired hearts. Joy does not always shout. Sometimes it just whispers in the middle of an ordinary day.
A crushed spirit makes even small things feel too hard. But Jesus came to heal broken hearts and give rest to tired souls. You do not have to fake joy or force a smile. Just invite God into your day, as it is. Let Him carry what feels too heavy. His joy is steady and faithful, even when it is quiet. Over time, that quiet joy starts to heal what was broken.
