Devotion — God Is Not on Our Honey-Do List

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

Most wives know what a honey-do list is. It is that running list of things we hope our husband will get around to fixing, building, moving, repairing, hanging, hauling, or finishing.

And let’s be honest, sometimes those lists can get pretty long.

But somewhere along the way, if we are not careful, we can start treating God the same way. We bring Him our spiritual honey-do list and say, “Lord, if You fix this, change that, heal this, provide that, open this door, close that one, and answer this prayer exactly the way I want, then I will praise You.”

But that is not worship. That is negotiation.

God is not our handyman. He is our Father.

We do not love God because He checks every box on our list. We love Him because of who He is and because of what He has already done. He sent His Son. He forgave our sins. He carried us through storms we thought would break us. He gave us breath this morning, grace for today, mercy we did not earn, and blessings we have not even stopped long enough to count.

The truth is, many of us are asking God for more while failing to thank Him for what is already in our hands.

If God gave us everything on our list, we still could not count all His blessings. And if He gave us nothing else, Calvary would still be enough.

Love for God cannot be conditional. It cannot be, “Lord, I will love You if…” Real love says, “Lord, I love You because You first loved me.”

There is nothing wrong with bringing our needs to God. He invites us to pray. He cares about every burden, every tear, every fear, and every need. But prayer is not a business meeting, and faith is not a bargain.

Today, lay down the honey-do list long enough to lift up a hallelujah.

Before asking Him for another thing, thank Him for what He has already done.

Let us Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have treated You more like a servant than my Savior. Forgive me for measuring Your love by whether You answered my prayers the way I wanted. Help me to see the blessings already around me. Teach me to love You without conditions, to trust You without demands, and to praise You not only for what You can do, but for what You have already done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
