Not New and Improved — Made New
Our Daily Devotion – Not New and Improved — Made New
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
— Ezekiel 36:26
Hearts do not harden overnight. It happens slowly. Disappointment. Long seasons of ministry. Prayers that seem unanswered. The weight of responsibility. Before long, what was once tender can become guarded. What was once responsive grows quiet.
God speaks directly to that condition.
Through Ezekiel, He makes a promise that still takes your breath away: “I will give you a new heart… I will remove your heart of stone.” Notice who is doing the work. This is not a patch job. This is not self-repair. It is divine replacement.
We are not a polished version of our old self. We are not “new and improved.” In Christ, we are made new — given a new heart and a new spirit.
A heart of stone resists. It goes through the motions. It can preach the truth and still struggle to feel it. But a heart of flesh responds. It listens. It loves. And only God can make that exchange.
Wherever you find yourself today — tired, guarded, even a little numb — remember this: the Lord is still in the business of making all things new. Turn toward Him. Yield to Him. Let Him do what only He can do.
He does not improve the old nature.
He replaces it.
