Ray’s Reflection - Strength for the Climb

Sometimes, the mountain in front of us looms impossibly high—its craggy slopes shrouded in mist, its summit hidden beyond the clouds.

We measure the distance, feel the weight of the difficulty, and worry over every unknown that lies ahead. Before we even take the first step, our spirits are worn thin with fear and doubt, our strength sapped by worries about what might be required of us.

But God, in His gentle wisdom, does not always ask us to muster strength for the entire journey at once. Instead, He invites us to trust Him for just the next step—reminding us that we were never meant to scale the whole mountain in a single bound.

In counseling and ministry, I have witnessed this lesson unfold countless times. People face trials that seem unending—grief that aches, recoveries that stretch on, marriages tested by hardship, diagnoses that shake the soul, seasons of waiting that feel endless.

The thought of making it all the way through can be overwhelming. But when the horizon feels too far, they find courage to believe God for today. They discover they can offer one more prayer, choose one more act of obedience, surrender one more moment, or take one more step of faith.

And often, that is where victory begins.

The climb is not conquered in a single heroic leap. It is won one faithful step at a time. The same God who lends you strength for today will be waiting with fresh mercy tomorrow. The same Lord who steadies your trembling feet on the rocky path will never leave you stranded halfway up the mountain. Each step, though small, is a declaration of trust in His unfailing presence.

So let go of staring at the distant summit in fear. Lift your eyes to the Lord, the Maker of the mountains. Ask Him for faith and courage to take the next step, no matter how small it seems. Then move forward, trusting He walks beside you.

That single, trembling step of faith may become the very step that leads you further and higher than you ever imagined—opening vistas of hope and strength you never thought possible.

The Lord be with you.
