Daily R.E.A.P. Report for Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
Step Forward in Strength and Courage with God by Your Side

Read

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 (ESV)

The Book of Joshua marks a pivotal transition in Israel’s history, moving from Moses’ leadership to Joshua, as the Israelites prepare to enter the Promised Land. God speaks these words directly to Joshua after Moses’ death, calling him to lead with confidence despite daunting obstacles. The generation that wandered in the wilderness has passed; now a new life, filled with promise and challenge, lies ahead. God reassures Joshua—and everyone who would read these words—of His faithful presence and power. These truths remind us today that no matter what lies ahead, God’s commands come with His companionship and strength.

Examine

Joshua 1:9 is both a command and a promise. God urges Joshua (and us) to embody strength and courage, not by willpower alone, but by relying on His constant presence. The verse dispels fear and discouragement, assuring us that God is invested in our every step. Here, God’s character—faithful, present, and empowering—is the anchor for Joshua’s mission and for all who choose faith over fear.

Connection to Jesus: Jesus perfectly embodies the message of this verse—He faced the cross with ultimate courage, assuring His disciples in Matthew 28:20, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Because of Christ’s presence through the Holy Spirit, we too can live boldly, knowing our Savior walks with us. Jesus invites us to find strength not in ourselves, but in Him, echoing the assurance God gave to Joshua.

Main Themes:
- Courage: The call to face challenges with a bold, faith-filled heart.
God’s Presence: The sustaining truth that God never leaves us, whatever the journey.
- Obedience in Uncertainty: Strength and courage grow as we trust and follow God’s commands—even when the path ahead is unclear.

Key Word Study:
- "Be strong" (Hebrew: chazaq): To grow firm, be resolute, and display inner strength, often in response to God's calling.
- "Do not be dismayed" (Hebrew: chatat): To be shattered or discouraged. God urges us not to let fear break or paralyze us, but to stand firm in His promises.

Apply

Reflective Questions:
- Where am I facing fear, uncertainty, or discouragement that I need to surrender to God’s presence?
- What step of obedience is God inviting me to take, and how can I trust Him for the strength to do it?
- How can I intentionally remind myself today that God is with me, no matter what I face?

Real-Life Application:
1. Speak God’s Truth Over Fear: When fear or worry rise up, pause and repeat Joshua 1:9 aloud or write it somewhere you’ll see throughout the day.
2. Take a Bold Step: Identify a small, practical act of faith in an area where you feel intimidated—maybe reaching out to a new friend, taking on a challenge at work, or addressing a difficult issue in your family.
3. Encourage Others: Share this verse with someone else who is struggling or afraid, letting God’s reassurance flow through you.

Example: Picture a single mom starting a new job after months of searching. Fear and uncertainty bubble up, but each morning she prays Joshua 1:9, asking God for His courage and strength. Over time, her confidence grows—not because her circumstances become easier, but because she learns to lean on the presence and promises of God.

Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You for being the God who never abandons or forsakes me. Thank You for Your steadfast love and constant presence. Forgive me for times when I let fear or discouragement take over my heart instead of trusting Your promises. Strengthen me with Your courage and fill me with faith to obey, even when I am uncertain. Holy Spirit, empower me to walk boldly, confident that You go before and beside me. Help me to encourage others and to rest in Your presence, knowing You are truly with me wherever I go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Closing Reflection: Imagine your heart as a lantern—God’s presence is the flame within, lighting your path through any darkness or doubt. As you move into your day, picture each step glowing brighter because God Himself walks beside you, whispering courage and strength into your spirit. You are never alone.

Call to Action: Today, take one courageous step—no matter how small—rooted in the promise that God is with you wherever you go. Let His presence fuel your confidence and inspire others to trust Him too. You are equipped, loved, and never forsaken. Walk forward in faith!
