Walking with Jesus — Strength for the Road Ahead

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6

There are moments in life when God places something in front of us that feels far bigger than we are. A difficult decision. A new responsibility. A season of uncertainty. The kind of situation that makes you pause and quietly ask yourself, “Am I really ready for this?”
Joshua stood in that exact place.

Moses, the great leader of Israel, was nearing the end of his life. The responsibility of leading the nation into the Promised Land was about to fall on Joshua’s shoulders. It was not a small task. Ahead of him were battles, unknown territory, and the weight of guiding an entire people.
Joshua was a faithful servant of God, but he was still human. He knew the challenges waiting on the other side of the Jordan River. Fear would have been a natural response.

So Moses spoke words that have echoed through the centuries:
“Be strong and courageous.”

Notice what he did not say. He did not say, “Don’t feel afraid.” God understands our human nature. Fear will sometimes come knocking at the door of our hearts. What matters is what we do when it arrives.
The reason Joshua could move forward was not because he suddenly became fearless. The reason was the promise that followed:
“For the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

That promise changes everything.

God does not send His people into difficult places alone. He doesn’t point toward the battle and stay behind. He walks with us into the unknown. He stands beside us when the path feels uncertain. He strengthens us when our own strength runs thin.

Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is trusting God enough to take the next step anyway.

Today you may be facing something that feels overwhelming—a challenge at work, a family burden, a health concern, or a decision that weighs heavily on your heart.

Whatever it is, remember this: the same promise given to Joshua belongs to every believer.

The Lord your God goes with you.

You are not walking this road alone.

Take the next step in faith.
