Team Jesus — Different Gifts, One Purpose

“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.” — 1 Corinthians 12:4

If you’ve spent time around a ballclub, you know not everyone does the same job. But every job is essential to the team’s success.

The pitcher doesn’t play shortstop.
The catcher doesn’t lead off the inning.
And the manager doesn’t swing the bat.

Each man has a role. Each gift brings something different. And every role matters, not just for the scoreboard, but for the team’s heart.
When a team understands this, something changes. They become a brotherhood. There’s unity, trust, and a sense of purpose. But if a team starts comparing and competing, things fall apart.

It’s the same way in the body of Christ. Maybe even more so.

God never intended for one person to do everything. Instead, He weaves a tapestry of gifts throughout His people—teachers who illuminate truth, encouragers who lift weary hearts, servants who meet practical needs, leaders who chart the course, prayer warriors who battle in the unseen, and quiet saints who show up, day after day, doing the unnoticed work that holds everything together. Each gift is chosen with care and purpose.

One may be the architect who builds the plan.
Another may be the scout who sees what others miss.
Another may be the steady hand who keeps everything grounded in truth.

Different gifts. One purpose: to build up the body, honor Christ, and let His light shine.

Problems arise when we compare roles instead of honoring them -when we forget that every gift is needed, and every position sacred.

The pitcher might wish he could hit.
The bench player might wish he were the star.

But the teams that last, the ones people remember, are built on men who let go of ego, accept their job, and play with heart and humility.
God works the same way. He puts His people where they need to be, with wisdom and love.

He doesn’t ask you to be someone else or wish for another job.

He just asks you to be faithful, right where you are, with what He’s given you.

Some plant.
Some water.

But as Scripture reminds us, God gives the increase.

So today, don’t worry about what someone else is doing.

Just play your position. Do it with joy, with gratitude, and remember it’s a privilege to serve.

And trust the Manager.
