Walking with Jesus — When Your Light Feels Dim

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Matthew 5:14

Reflection:

Today, I am struggling.

There are days when the weight of life feels heavier than our strength. We pray for others, encourage the hurting, and try to remain faithful—but inside, we wonder how much more we can carry.

On days like this, the words of Jesus may feel almost impossible: “You are the light of the world.”

Lord, how can I be a light when I feel surrounded by darkness? How can I encourage someone else when my own heart is weary?

But Jesus did not say that we are the light because we always feel strong. He did not say our light would never flicker in the wind. He simply declared, “You are the light of the world.”

A candle does not have to light the entire room by itself. It only has to remain connected to the flame.

Our light does not come from our strength, our confidence, or our ability to hold everything together. Our light comes from Christ living within us. When we are weak, He remains strong. When our faith feels like a flicker, He guards the flame.

Sometimes our brightest witness is not found in pretending everything is fine. It is found in continuing to trust God while tears are still falling. It is whispering, “Jesus, help me,” when we do not have the strength for a longer prayer. It is taking one more step when we cannot see the whole road ahead.

You may feel dim today, but you have not gone dark. Christ is still with you. His light is still within you. And even a trembling flame can help another weary traveler find the way home.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, today I am struggling. My heart is tired, and the burdens feel heavy. I do not have the strength to shine on my own, so I ask You to shine through me. Protect the small flame of faith within my heart. Remind me that my weakness does not disqualify me and that Your strength is made perfect in weakness. Help me take the next step, speak the next prayer, and trust You through this darkness. Let the light of Christ remain visible in me, even through my tears.
