We like to know what is coming, how it will work out, and whether we will have enough for tomorrow. But God invites us into a deeper trust — the trust of daily dependence.His provision comes at the precise moment we need it. Not too early, so that we begin to rely on ourselves. Not too late, as though He were indifferent to our struggles. God knows what we need, when we need it, and how best to provide it.In embracing this divine rhythm of “enough,” we find rest and assurance in knowing that God is both aware of our needs and faithful to meet them day by day. But today, it seems we do not hear it as often as we once did.That is a loss.The Lord’s Prayer is not just a set of words to recite. It is a pattern for how to walk with God. It begins with worship: “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.” It teaches surrender: “Thy will be done.” It teaches dependence: “Give us this day our daily bread.” It teaches forgiveness, protection, humility, and trust.When Jesus taught us to pray for daily bread, He was teaching us to rely on the Father one day at a time. National Day of Prayer: The Heartbeat of Our NationToday is the National Day of Prayer, a time when individuals across the nation gather in homes, churches, and public spaces to seek God together.This year’s theme, “Glorify God among the nations, seeking Him in all generations,” is based on 1 Chronicles 16:24: “Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.” Still, what we need most is not just reform or better conditions, but a true spiritual awakening that starts with repentance and humility before God.This verse reminds us where our focus should be. We are not gathering to lift up a flag or any one group.We come together to honor the Lord’s name among all people and nations.We are not asking God to approve our pride, political opinions, or personal preferences.We ask God to search our hearts, cleanse our actions, give us humble spirits, and restore our souls.Loving our country is not the same as seeking revival.I’m thankful for this country and the freedom we have. But America isn’t the Kingdom of God. Our first loyalty is to Jesus. We’re not just here to ask for blessings. We’re here to ask God to shape our hearts so they line up with His.God calls us to pray for our leaders and look out for our neighbors. I’m grateful to every person who longs to see our nation walk in righteousness, our towns filled with hope, and our churches alive with real faith.But just calling for change isn’t enough.We can pass new laws and fix broken systems, but only God can change a heart.We might change how a nation runs, but only the Holy Spirit can bring it back to life.This kind of renewal starts with prayer—alone and together—rooted in humility and honest repentance.We don’t win spiritual battles in courtrooms or at the ballot box. A Divine Moment in the Midst of MourningSaturday, I had the honor of officiating a funeral here in Southern Illinois for a remarkable woman who had journeyed from California to her final resting place. Her sister, a gentle soul from Indiana, arrived with the weight of sorrow etched on her face, every step bearing the ache and tenderness that only love and loss can bring. The air was thick with remembrance, and every glance, every embrace among those gathered, carried the silent language of mourning and shared memory.But somewhere in the heart of that service, as the Word of God was spoken with tenderness and the radiant hope of Christ was proclaimed, something sacred began to unfold. The room—once heavy with the hush of grief—grew lighter, as if sunlight had broken through on a cloudy day. You could sense the Holy Spirit moving, an unseen presence saturating the space. Faces softened, postures straightened, and eyes that brimmed with tears found new brightness. Hearts, heavy with sorrow, were gently caught and lifted by the promise of eternal hope that glimmered like a beacon.After the service, this grieving sister came to me and said something I will never forget:“I have never left a funeral filled with joy until today. Will you do my funeral?”That transformation was not the work of any speaker, nor the result of eloquent words or ceremony. It was the presence of the One who sends us—the Author of comfort, the Voice that speaks through His Word, and the Shepherd who finds us in our valleys. Each step grows heavier. Each mile seems longer than the one before. Each moment tests our resolve.Yet it is often in these seasons of persistent struggle that God does some of His deepest work in us. Perseverance turns weary footsteps into sacred ground. What feels like delay may actually be preparation. What feels like silence may be God strengthening our roots beneath the surface.God’s timing is never hurried, and it is never late. He knows the exact season when the harvest will come. Even when the fruit of our labor seems distant, we are called to keep sowing seeds of kindness, compassion, obedience, prayer, and faith into the lives of others.Do not stop doing good simply because you cannot yet see the results. The Lord sees every act of faithfulness. He knows every prayer whispered through tears, every burden carried quietly, every step taken when quitting would have been easier.The One who called you to this journey will bring the harvest in His perfect time. So keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep sowing. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5To abide means to remain. It means staying close, drawing strength each day from the living presence of Jesus. Just as a branch receives life and nourishment from the vine, we receive everything we need from Christ.Fruit does not grow by human effort, religious strain, or spiritual performance. Fruit grows from connection. A healthy branch does not struggle to produce fruit; it simply remains attached to the vine. In the same way, when we remain close to Jesus, His life flows through us, and in His time, fruit begins to appear.The danger comes when we begin leaning on our own limited strength. We may still look busy, active, and productive on the outside, but inwardly we can begin to dry up. Without the life of Christ flowing through us, our work becomes weary, our faith becomes strained, and our spirit begins to lose its strength.So stay close to the Vine. Remain in His Word. Remain in prayer. Remain in obedience. Remain in His grace. His life-giving presence will sustain you, strengthen you, and produce fruit that lasts.You do not have to force the fruit.
