Someone needs to hear this today:
The God you trust with your eternity can be trusted with your today. We say we trust Jesus with our eternal soul, yet sometimes we struggle to trust Him with Tuesday morning. The doctor's report. The unpaid bill. The family problem. The decision we cannot make. The burden we cannot fix. The tomorrow we cannot see.If I can place eternity in His hands, surely I can place today there too.Jesus never promised us a trouble-free life, but He did tell us not to carry tomorrow's burdens before tomorrow arrives.“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” — Matthew 6:34Whatever is weighing on you today, bring it to Him.Pray about it. Believe Him. And then release it.The God who holds your eternity is already holding your today.— ray mileur

Quote of the Day - “An open Bible in the morning is my lifeline for the day.”— ray mileurBefore the phone rings, the news starts talking, and the day’s responsibilities settle on my shoulders, I need time in God’s Word.I’ve learned what happens when I let everything else speak first. My thoughts chase worries, my mood follows the headlines, and my peace rises and falls with circumstances. But when I open my Bible, I’m reminded who God is and who I belong to.Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from hearing the message about Christ. Faith grows as we keep listening to His Word, day by day and verse by verse.I can’t control everything the day will bring. I can choose what fills my mind before I face it. An open Bible helps me begin with truth and carry it with me through the day.

Joy in the Storm
“Joy isn’t pretending that the storm isn’t real; it’s trusting God for the rainbow that follows.” - ray mileurStorms have a way of showing us what we’re really standing on.When life gets rough, the masks come off. We can try to smile through the pain, but that doesn’t heal what is hurting inside. We can pretend the thunder isn’t there, but sooner or later, we have to face the storm.Life brings storms—loss that breaks our hearts, disappointment that stings, prayers that seem to go unanswered, and circumstances we never imagined we would have to walk through. And it is often in those hard places that what we truly believe comes to the surface.Joy isn’t pretending everything is fine. It isn’t ignoring the hurt or putting on a brave face for everyone else.Real joy can look directly at the storm and say, “This hurts.”But faith adds something else:“God is still here.”Christian joy is rooted in trust—a deep assurance that God is not absent in our suffering but present with us in the downpour.Joy does not require a cloudless sky.It simply refuses to believe that the storm gets the final word. The rainbow reminds us of something greater than changing circumstances: God is faithful. The same God who walked with us before the storm is walking with us through it, and He will still be God when the clouds begin to break.Sometimes the storm passes quickly. Sometimes it stays far longer than we ever imagined. And sometimes life is forever changed by what happened beneath those dark clouds. But God does not change.Rainbows do not erase the storm. They remind us that darkness is not all there is. They point us back to the faithfulness of a God who keeps His promises. So if you are standing in the middle of a storm today, you do not have to pretend the sun is shining.Call the storm what it is.Cry if you need to cry.Pray when you have the words—and when you don’t.But keep trusting.Your joy does not depend upon the absence of the storm. It rests in the presence of the One who promised never to leave you.The storm may be real, but so is God.

The Worst, Greatest Sermon I Ever Heard
On a Sunday morning years ago, somewhere along Interstate 5 in Southern California, I stopped at a truck stop.Inside, there was a small theater where truck drivers usually watched movies. That morning, it was a church. I walked in as the service started and saw the room was nearly full. Maybe fifty men, most of them truckers.I took a seat near the front, against the wall.Praise and worship started, but it wasn’t what I was used to. No worship leader, no band, no hymnals, no words on a screen.Someone played a video of an old gospel group singing hymns. The truck drivers sang along. And those truck drivers sang.Maybe they didn’t know every verse, but when the chorus came around, they knew it.After three songs, a man stood up in the middle of the room. He looked more like a mechanic than a preacher. His clothes were worn, his appearance disheveled. No pulpit, no microphone, and no grand introduction. He held only an old, tattered Bible. Then he began to preach. It was rough. He wasn’t polished. He looked uncomfortable up there. He stumbled over his words, filling the gaps with 'uhs' and 'hmms.' He read some Scripture, talked a bit, lost his place, found it again, and kept going. I remember thinking, This might be the worst sermon I’ve ever heard. At one point, I thought about getting up and leaving. But in the back of my mind, I could hear my mother reminding me how rude that would be, so I stayed. The sermon lasted about thirty minutes. It felt longer than that.I found myself thinking more about how he was speaking than about the Scriptures he read. Then he stopped.Still clutching that worn Bible, he looked around the room and asked a simple question:“How many of you were blessed by today’s service?”Hands started going up.I counted them.Twenty-eight.Twenty-eight men.I was surprised.I remember asking God in my heart, What just happened here?Right then, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart:Not every sermon is written for you. That got my attention. But I still had more to learn. In my heart I answered, Yes, Lord, I understand. But this was rough. The delivery was poor. Surely You could have found someone who could speak better. What I sensed next has stayed with me ever since:As long as a man will speak My Word, I will take care of the rest. That should have been enough for me.But I still wasn’t done learning.I remember thinking, I understand that, Lord—but couldn’t You find a better man? A better speaker? Someone more prepared to deliver the message? Then God spoke to me:"I called you, but you didn’t come."I have never forgotten it.There I was, criticizing the man who had answered the call, while I sat in the audience and judged him.He may not have been polished or eloquent. But he showed up.He opened the Bible. He spoke the Word of God.And God took care of the rest. Those twenty-eight hands showed me that God was doing something in that little truck-stop theater, and I had missed it.I had been watching the preacher.God had been working on hearts.I had been evaluating the delivery.God had been planting His Word.I was judging the messenger.God was reaching men.Paul wrote: “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” — 2 Corinthians 4:7That’s the point. The treasure has never been the vessel. The power has never been in the preacher’s polish, personality, education, eloquence, microphone, stage, lighting, worship team, or presentation. The treasure is the Gospel. The power belongs to God.That Sunday morning taught me something I’ve needed to remember ever since. We never know what God is doing in someone else’s heart while His Word is being spoken. The sermon that does nothing for me might be the one keeping someone else from giving up.The Scripture I’ve heard a hundred times might be the very verse the man next to me needed to hear for the first time. The preacher I’m tempted to criticize might be the one God uses to reach someone I never could. And the person whose ability I question might just be the one willing to say, Yes, Lord, when others would not.Rarely does a week go by without me remembering that truck stop.Especially when I am preparing to preach or teach.Whenever I start to worry about how I sound, or if my words are good enough, or if people will approve, I remember that Sunday morning. And the Holy Spirit reminds me: "Speak the Word. Trust God to do the rest."Preparation matters. We should study. We should handle Scripture with care. We should give God our best. But preparation and performance are not the same.My responsibility is faithfulness.God’s responsibility is the results.I cannot convict a heart.I cannot save a soul.I cannot manufacture a spiritual response.I cannot make someone hear what only the Holy Spirit can reveal. All I can do is answer the call, open the Word, tell the truth, love the people in front of me, and trust God with the rest. The worst sermon I ever heard became one of the greatest lessons I ever learned. Not because the preacher was great, but because God was.And twenty-eight men in that old truck-stop theater along Interstate 5 taught me a lesson I hope I never forget:Never mistake an imperfect messenger for an ineffective God.Speak His Word.Answer His call. And trust Him to take care of the rest. — ray mileur

The Worst, Greatest Sermon I Ever Heard

Cultural Christianity or True Christianity? There is a kind of Christianity that is deeply woven into our culture. It shows up in family traditions, holiday gatherings, moral values, church attendance, and even in the box someone checks when asked about their religion. For many people, being “Christian” is simply part of where they came from. Their parents were Christians. Their grandparents went to church. They grew up around the Bible, learned the songs, heard the sermons, and became familiar with the language of faith. But familiarity with Christianity is not the same thing as knowing Christ.A person can grow up around the things of God without ever surrendering his or her life to God.That is the danger of cultural Christianity.Jesus warned about people who honored God with their lips while their hearts remained far from Him. Isaiah had spoken the same warning generations earlier:“This people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me.” — Isaiah 29:13Those are sobering words because they remind us that it is possible to know the language of faith without possessing the life of faith.Cultural Christianity wears the name of Christ without surrendering to the rule of Christ. It can attend worship without truly worshiping. It can know Bible verses without allowing the Word of God to change the heart. It can speak about Jesus, defend Christian values, and even participate in church life while never experiencing the new birth Jesus said we must have. And this is where the conversation needs to become personal. This is not about examining everybody else.It is about examining ourselves.Paul wrote, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith” (2 Corinthians 13:5).That is a question worth asking from time to time:Has my Christianity become something I merely identify with, or is Jesus Christ truly Lord of my life?True Christianity is more than adopting better morals or becoming a nicer person. Christianity is not self-improvement. It is transformation.Scripture describes the believer as a new creation. When Christ takes hold of a life, something begins to change. There is a turning from self toward Christ, from sin toward repentance, from independence toward dependence upon God.That does not mean Christians become perfect.Far from it.We still stumble. We still wrestle with temptation. We still have moments when our faith is weaker than it ought to be. But there is now something within us that was not there before: a desire for Christ, a conviction over sin, a hunger for His Word, a growing life of prayer, and a willingness to follow Him.There is a difference between struggling to follow Jesus and having no desire to follow Him at all.True Christianity produces fruit.Love begins to grow.Grace becomes more than something we receive; it becomes something we extend.Pride is confronted.Sin is no longer something we casually excuse.Mercy matters.Forgiveness matters.Obedience matters. And when we fail, something within us keeps drawing us back to Christ.True Christianity is not measured simply by what we once prayed, where we were baptized, what church our family attended, or what religious label we carry. The greater question is:Who am I following today? That is why this matters so much.Cultural Christianity can give someone just enough religion to feel safe without ever bringing that person to surrender.Jesus did not come simply to add religion to our lives. He came to give us life.He did not call us merely to admire Him, agree with Him, or occasionally acknowledge Him.He said, “Follow Me.”And that invitation still stands.Maybe you have known Christianity all your life.Maybe you grew up in church.Maybe you know the songs, the stories, the language, and the traditions. But somewhere along the way, Christianity became familiar while Christ became distant. There is no shame in admitting that. The danger is pretending everything is well when God is stirring your heart and telling you otherwise.God is not asking us to polish our religious image. He is calling us to Himself. His invitation is not condemnation but relationship.Come to Christ not merely as part of your heritage, but as your Savior.Come not because your family followed Him, but because you have chosen to follow Him.Come not simply carrying the name “Christian,” but surrendering your life to the One whose name you carry. The door of mercy is still open.Jesus still receives the sinner who comes honestly. He still forgives. He still cleanses. He still restores. And He still makes all things new.So perhaps the question for today is not, “Am I a Christian?”Perhaps the deeper question is:Do I truly know Christ?

Quote of the Day - "If you're too big for the small things, you're too small for the big things." — Ray Mileur Called by God, Anne and I probably look like a small ministry to the world. We don’t have a large staff. There aren’t television cameras following us around. Most days aren’t spent standing behind a pulpit or speaking to a crowd. Most days are much quieter than that. They’re filled with phone calls, kitchen-table prayers, hospital visits, messages from people who are hurting, conversations in parking lots, and prayers whispered with someone who may never tell another soul what they were going through. They’re the moments nobody photographs.Nobody applauds.Nobody posts about them. But over the years, Anne and I have learned something:God often does His biggest work in the smallest moments. We live in a world that measures importance by numbers. How many people attended? How many followers do you have? How many people watched? How many people know your name? But Jesus never seemed particularly impressed with numbers. He noticed individuals. He stopped for one blind man beside the road.He spoke with one woman at a well.He welcomed children others considered an interruption. He noticed Zacchaeus sitting in a tree.He touched the leper everyone else avoided. He stopped in the middle of a crowd because one hurting woman had reached out to touch His garment.Jesus was never too important for one person. And if we are following Him, neither should we be.Sometimes we imagine that God is preparing us for something “bigger,” when the truth may be that the person standing in front of us is the big thing. That phone call may be the assignment. That hospital room may be the mission field. That lonely person may be the congregation God has given us for the next twenty minutes. That quiet prayer prayed with trembling hands may accomplish more in the Kingdom of God than anything done on a stage. The danger comes when we begin believing certain acts of service are beneath us.When we start thinking, Someone else can handle that. When we begin looking for something more visible, more exciting, or more important. But faithfulness doesn’t work that way.Scripture reminds us:“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” — Luke 16:10God watches how we handle the little things. The unnoticed things. The inconvenient things. The things that offer no recognition in return.Anyone can serve when people are watching.Character is revealed when nobody is.I have come to believe that some of the greatest moments of ministry will never appear in a biography. They happen quietly.Someone calls late at night because they are afraid.A family sits beside a hospital bed and needs someone to pray.A grieving widow needs someone to listen.A discouraged brother or sister needs to hear, “I’m praying for you.”A stranger needs kindness.A hurting person needs someone willing to sit beside them for a few minutes and remind them that God has not forgotten them. Those moments may seem small.Heaven may see them very differently.Jesus said that even giving a cup of cold water in His name matters to God.Think about that.A cup of water. Not a crusade. Not a sermon. Not a building. Not a platform.A cup of water. The Kingdom of God has always advanced through ordinary people faithfully doing ordinary things in the name of an extraordinary Savior. So I never want to become too important to answer the phone.Too busy to pray.Too accomplished to visit the hurting.Too recognized to sit quietly with someone who needs a friend.Too spiritual to wash feet.Because the moment I become too big for the small things, I have become too small for the things that truly matter. So today, don’t overlook the little opportunities God places in front of you.Make the call.Send the message.Say the prayer.Visit the hospital.Check on the neighbor.Encourage the discouraged.Sit with the lonely.Listen longer than you planned.Offer the cup of cold water. You may never know what God does with that moment. And that’s all right. We are not called to make every moment impressive. We are called to be faithful. One prayer at a time. One person at a time. One act of kindness at a time. One quiet step of obedience at a time. Those “small” things? That is where faithfulness grows. And very often, that is where the biggest work of God begins. The Lord be with you.In His love,— ray mileur
