When Resolutions Fade: Anchoring Your Year in Christ’s Unfailing Strength
By late January, something familiar sets in.The gym is quieter. The planners are half-used. The big promises we made to ourselves on January 1 are already starting to loosen their grip. Studies say nearly 80% of resolutions fade by February, and honestly, most of us don’t need a study to confirm what experience already teaches.Human resolve has an expiration date. That reality isn’t just about diets and routines—it’s a picture of the spiritual life, too. There are seasons when motivation runs dry, when discipline feels heavy, and when even good intentions stall out. Tonight, after years of consistent daily ministry, I’ll admit there are moments when the well feels low. Not empty—but low. And if you’ve walked with Christ long enough, you know that feeling well. But here’s the good news: Christ’s strength does not fade when ours does.We live in a culture built on self-reliance. Try harder. Do better. Be stronger. Fix yourself. Yet Scripture never tells us that lasting faith is fueled by willpower. It tells us it’s sustained by grace.“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)David didn’t say, “I shall not want because I planned better.” He said he lacked nothing because the Shepherd provides. God supplies endurance that doesn’t depend on emotional momentum or perfect consistency. He gives strength that carries us through spiritual winters—not just mountaintop moments.Paul understood this deeply. Near the end of his life, he didn’t speak like a man riding a wave of enthusiasm. He spoke like a man who had learned how to endure.“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)Paul didn’t finish because every day felt inspired. He finished because his eyes were fixed on Christ. Just a few verses earlier, he warned about people chasing what feels good instead of what is true—“itching ears” searching for the next quick fix. That warning lands close to home in a culture obsessed with shortcuts, hacks, and instant results—even in faith. But Christianity was never meant to be trendy. It was meant to be true.Hebrews tells us to “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.” Perseverance implies resistance. It assumes fatigue. It acknowledges that the road is long. As a former first responder, I know what it means to keep showing up when adrenaline wears off and duty remains. Faith works the same way. And right now, believers around the world—whether in war-torn regions or quiet homes fighting unseen battles—are living that truth daily. So what do we do when resolutions fade?We re-anchor.If your Bible reading slipped, don’t quit—return. If prayer became mechanical, don’t abandon it—slow it down. If faith feels thin, don’t fake it—lean into grace.God isn’t asking you to muscle your way through the year. He’s inviting you to abide. To draw strength from Him instead of demanding it from yourself. Reverence over relevance. Faithfulness over hype. Grace over grind. As we move deeper into this year—with uncertainty in the world, noise in the culture, and weariness in many hearts—this is our anchor: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.Resolutions may fade. Christ does not.Let’s pray for renewed strength—personally and globally. For peace where there is war. For truth where lies have grown loud. And for endurance that only God can give.May this be the year we stop striving harder—and start trusting deeper.Walk in faith, rest in grace, and trust the One who walks beside you.In His love and grace, ray mileur "Helping believers walk closer to Jesus, one day at a time." www.raymileurministries.com

Our Scripture of the Day
Psalm 23 (ESV)The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord The 23rd Psalms reminds us that our security is not found in how well we manage our lives, but in who leads them. David’s confidence did not come from personal resolve or perfect consistency—it came from knowing the Shepherd would remain present when strength ran low. When resolve fades and the path grows weary, God does not withdraw. He restores, leads, and walks with us through every valley. What He provides does not depend on our endurance, but on His faithfulness.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
"Resolutions may fade, Christ does not." ~ ray mileurWhen our New Year's Resolutions begin to fade away into history, with all the other old ones, it doesn’t expose weakness—it reveals reality. We were never meant to navigate life by our own strength alone. God does not wait for us at the end of our endurance; He stands as a steady light when we are weary and unsure of the way. Returning to Him is not failure—it is faith turning back toward the light and remembering where our anchor truly holds.Walk in faith, rest in grace, and trust the One who walks beside you.
Worship with Reverence and Awe
“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” - Hebrews 12:28In my research, I have come to a sobering conclusion: the mid-20th century marked a turning point for evangelicalism. It was during this era that the church, in its desire for growth and cultural relevance, began to compromise its core values. Sacred foundations were slowly replaced with pragmatic and entertainment-driven strategies meant to draw crowds rather than form disciples. This troubling blend of faith and popular culture raises hard questions about the authenticity of our message. I remember a time when worship was never treated as a source of stimulation. Flashing lights and swirling smoke would have been unthinkable. There was no need to theatrically reassure people that God welcomed them just as they were. His presence alone was enough. When you walked into church, you stepped into a sacred space. Stained glass filtered the morning light. Soft hymns filled the air. Reverence wrapped around you like a quiet invitation to slow down and listen. The service followed a thoughtful structure, each part centered on the Word of God. Scripture wasn’t rushed or skimmed—it was proclaimed with conviction and care.As the pastor spoke, something stirred within you. The message didn’t aim to entertain; it aimed to transform. You left not amused, but convicted. Not hyped, but humbled. Not distracted, but deeply aware that you had stood in the presence of a holy God.The choir lifted hearts. The prayers bridged heaven and earth. And when you walked back into the world, you carried something real with you—a renewed sense of purpose, a call to live differently, and a quiet strength rooted in truth.Scripture tells us, “Let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.” That call has not changed. What has changed is our appetite. We now crave comfort over conviction, stimulation over stillness, relevance over reverence. But God is still holy. His Word is still sufficient. His Spirit still convicts, restores, and transforms.Maybe what the church needs most today is not a new method, a new sound, or a new stage—but a renewed hunger for God Himself.
Our Scripture of the Day - John 4:23-24
23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24 (ESV)Jesus did not say the Father is seeking talented worshipers, trendy worshipers, or entertained worshipers. He said the Father is seeking true worshipers—those who worship in spirit and in truth.Spirit means worship that rises from a sincere heart, not from manufactured emotion. Truth means worship that is grounded in God’s Word, not shaped by personal preference or cultural trends. Take either one away, and worship becomes hollow. Spirit without truth drifts into emotionalism. Truth without spirit hardens into empty ritual. God calls us to both.In a time when worship is often measured by how it makes us feel, Jesus reminds us that worship is first about honoring who God is. It is not a performance to watch or a product to consume. It is a holy response to the presence of a holy God.The Father is still seeking worshipers like this today. Not perfect people. Not impressive people. Just honest people—humble enough to submit to His truth and hungry enough to seek Him with their whole heart.True worship doesn’t start with a stage. It starts with surrender.
Quote of the Day
“A church that trades reverence for relevance will eventually lose both.” ~ ray mileur When a church chases relevance more than reverence, it slowly forgets who it is meant to please. Trends change. Culture shifts. Personalities fade. But God remains holy, unchanging, and worthy of awe. The goal of worship was never to impress people—it was to honor God and form disciples. A church rooted in Scripture and reverence may not always be popular, but it will always be faithful. And in the long run, faithfulness outlasts every fad.
