Again and again, we are faced with the choice between faith and fear, obedience and comfort, surrender and self-will.Discipleship is not merely a one-time commitment. It is a daily walk, a conscious decision to align our steps with the path God has laid before us. We do not choose Jesus once and then put life on autopilot. We choose Him again in our thoughts, our words, our attitudes, our priorities, and our actions.The small, seemingly insignificant choices we make each day become the building blocks of a life that honors and delights Him. They shape our character. They strengthen our faith. They reveal what we truly value.God, in His mercy, sets before us the way of life. He does not force us down that road, but He lovingly calls us to walk in it.So today, choose life once more.Choose faith over fear. Choose obedience over ease. Choose surrender over control. Choose Christ over everything else. Let us pray.Dear Heavenly Father, help us to choose life. Help us to choose You in every decision. The father in Mark 9 did not come to Jesus with polished words, perfect confidence, or unshakable faith. He came honestly. He believed, but he also struggled. He trusted, but he also trembled.And Jesus did not turn him away.God treasures honesty more than the appearance of perfection. When uncertainty rises and doubt begins to creep in, the Lord invites us to bring those struggles directly to Him. We do not have to pretend our faith is stronger than it is. We do not have to dress up our doubts before coming into His presence.We simply come.It is in that honest place that Christ meets trembling faith with unwavering grace. Even faith as small as a mustard seed is enough when it is placed in the hands of a mighty Savior. The strength is not in the size of our faith, but in the One our faith rests upon.There will be days when your faith feels weak. There will be moments when your heart whispers, “Lord, I believe,” while your circumstances cry, “Help my unbelief.”Take heart. Waiting has a way of refining our hearts, reshaping our character, and teaching us to depend on Him more deeply.David was anointed king long before he ever wore the crown. Years passed between the promise and the palace. But those years were not wasted. In the fields, in the caves, and on the run from Saul, David learned lessons he could never have learned sitting on a throne. God used the delay to prepare the man for the assignment.The same is true for us.What feels like a frustrating delay may actually be divine preparation. God’s pauses serve a greater purpose, even when we cannot see the whole picture. He may be strengthening your faith, deepening your patience, or preparing you for something greater than you are ready to carry today.So do not despise the waiting season. Embrace it with faith. We measure the distance, feel the weight of the difficulty, and worry over every unknown that lies ahead. Before we even take the first step, our spirits are worn thin with fear and doubt, our strength sapped by worries about what might be required of us.But God, in His gentle wisdom, does not always ask us to muster strength for the entire journey at once. Instead, He invites us to trust Him for just the next step—reminding us that we were never meant to scale the whole mountain in a single bound.In counseling and ministry, I have witnessed this lesson unfold countless times. People face trials that seem unending—grief that aches, recoveries that stretch on, marriages tested by hardship, diagnoses that shake the soul, seasons of waiting that feel endless. The thought of making it all the way through can be overwhelming. But when the horizon feels too far, they find courage to believe God for today. They discover they can offer one more prayer, choose one more act of obedience, surrender one more moment, or take one more step of faith.And often, that is where victory begins.The climb is not conquered in a single heroic leap. It is won one faithful step at a time. The same God who lends you strength for today will be waiting with fresh mercy tomorrow. The same Lord who steadies your trembling feet on the rocky path will never leave you stranded halfway up the mountain. Each step, though small, is a declaration of trust in His unfailing presence.So let go of staring at the distant summit in fear. Lift your eyes to the Lord, the Maker of the mountains. Isaiah 40:31Waiting on the Lord is not merely a pause; it is a sacred place where true strength is born.Just as an eagle does not rise by frantic flapping, but by catching the currents of the wind, we must learn to trust God in the stillness. There are seasons when the climb is steep, the path is tiring, and our strength begins to fail. Yet in those quiet moments spent in His presence, our weariness meets His power.God does not always remove the mountain before us, but He gives us strength for the climb. He teaches us not to push ahead in our own ability, but to wait, trust, and rise by the power of His Spirit.Instead of striving against the storm, allow yourself the grace to wait on the Lord. He will renew your strength. He will steady your steps. And in His time, He will lift you higher than you thought you could go. Let us pray.Dear Heavenly Father, renew our strength as we wait on You. Walking with Jesus — Day 16 The Weight of Distractions“But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.’” Luke 10:41–42Martha’s service was commendable. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to the work before her, yet her constant busyness robbed her of the inner peace she was seeking.In our daily lives, we often fill our schedules with countless activities intended for God: volunteering, attending church events, serving others, and staying involved in ministry. These things may be good, even necessary, but they can never take the place of simply spending time in His presence.Sometimes our distractions come dressed up as responsibilities. They may look noble on the outside, but slowly and quietly, they can pull our hearts away from genuine devotion and fellowship with Christ.Jesus was not rebuking Martha for serving. He was reminding her that service must flow from relationship, not replace it. Mary had chosen “the one thing” that was necessary: sitting at the feet of Jesus and receiving from Him.Everything else can wait.The true essence of faith is found in those quiet moments when we lay down the weight of our distractions and rest in His love, His Word, and His presence. Let us pray.Dear Heavenly Father, quiet our striving hearts. Teach us to rest at Your feet and find joy in simply being with You. That is where many of us find ourselves. We are not running from God. We are often running ourselves ragged trying to serve Him.But Jesus gently reminds us that there is “one thing” that is necessary.Before we serve, we must sit. Before we speak, we must listen. Before we pour out, we must be filled. A soul that never rests at the feet of Jesus will eventually grow weary, even while doing good things.The danger is not always in bad distractions. Sometimes the greatest distractions are good things that have slipped out of their proper place. Ministry, service, schedules, responsibilities, and even church work can become heavy when they are no longer flowing from quiet fellowship with Christ.Jesus does not call us to frantic service. He calls us to faithful nearness.When we spend time in His presence, our service becomes lighter, our hearts become quieter, and our priorities become clearer. The work will still be there. The needs will still be there. But we will face them from a place of peace instead of pressure.Everything else can wait.The one thing that cannot wait is time with Jesus.The Lord be with you.
