Ray's Reflection - Storms have a way of stripping life down to what’s real. They shake what can be shaken, expose what we’ve been leaning on, and test the foundation beneath our feet. But for the believer, a storm isn’t an identity crisis—it’s an identity confirmation.When the winds rise and the waves crash, we don’t suddenly become children of God—we reveal that we already are. Our peace in the middle of chaos, our refusal to give in to fear, our quiet trust when nothing makes sense—those things don’t come from us. They come from Christ in us.Anyone can stand tall on a calm day. Faith doesn’t cost much when the skies are blue and the waters are still. But when the storm hits, that’s when faith shows its roots. Not loud, not showy—just steady. Anchored. Unmoved.The truth is that storms don’t build your identity in Christ. That work was already done the moment you placed your trust in Him. What storms do is pull back the curtain and let the world—and sometimes even you—see the strength, hope, and security that were there all along. Still the anchor holds.

A NOTE FROM RAY - I'm living with the side effects. Walking with Jesus comes with its share of challenges, trials, and tests of faith.Recently, Anne pointed something out to me. In the middle of a situation, my response was very different from how I would have reacted 20 or 25 years ago. Two words came to mind: side effects. It hit me—when we spend time in the Word, stay in prayer, and walk closely with Jesus, there are side effects. But they’re not the kind we try to avoid… they’re the kind we hope for.Scripture calls them the fruit of the Spirit.In Galatians 5:22–23, we’re reminded that the Holy Spirit produces in us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These don’t come from trying harder—they come from walking closer.Over time, something changes in us. Our reactions soften. Our patience grows. Our words carry more grace. Not because we’ve mastered life—but because the Spirit is at work within us.And one day, like me, you may find yourself pausing and realizing… you’re not who you used to be.That’s not coincidence. That’s transformation. I can live with these side effects.

Yet from the depths of unimaginable pain, Job spoke these remarkable words: “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”This was not denial. It was not cold stoicism. It was raw, honest faith. Job did not pretend his pain was small, nor did he ignore the heartbreak that had fallen upon him. Instead, he recognized a hard but holy truth: everything he had was a gift from God, and even in loss, God was still worthy of praise.Job’s response reminds us that faith is not anchored in favorable circumstances, but in the unchanging character of God. His trust was not built on what he possessed, but on who God is—faithful, sovereign, and good. In a world where everything can be taken away in a moment, Job found solid ground in the one thing that never changes: the Lord Himself.That kind of faith challenges us. When hardship comes, do we cling only to what we have lost, or can we still bow our hearts before God in trust? Can we praise Him not only in abundance, but also in sorrow? In seasons of joy and in seasons of loss, may we learn to fix our eyes on the Lord. And may we find the strength, even through tears, to whisper, “Blessed be Your name.”

Instead, he offers a counterfeit.A version of faith that looks right on the surface… sounds spiritual… feels good… and draws no resistance from the world.It’s a Christianity without repentance. A Gospel without the cross. A faith that comforts, but never convicts.And it’s everywhere.It shows up in teachings that promise blessings without obedience… spirituality without truth… and unity without discernment.Some chase experiences instead of Christ. Others redefine truth to fit culture. And in some cases, people open doors to things they don’t fully understand—calling it “spiritual,” when it has nothing to do with the Spirit of God.Here’s the danger— a counterfeit only works if it closely resembles the real thing.That’s why Scripture warns us to test everything. Not by feelings… not by popularity… but by the Word of God.Now hear me—this isn’t about pointing fingers.
