A Shot Heard Around the Word

For the second time in this great nation's history, a shot was fired that was heard around the world. The first time was at Lexington and Concord in 1776, when the bloodshed birthed a nation. The second instance on September 10, 2025, at the campus of the Utah Valley University, where the bloodshed of one man, meant to silence a voice in the wilderness only succeeded in awakening a sleeping giant from its slumber of apathy and silence.

When I think of the death of Charlie Kirk, I am reminded of the Word, John 12:24, from: "I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives".

Charlie Kirk was extraordinarily gifted by God. A once-in-a-generation mind, his life cut short by an assassin’s bullet. He may be gone, but the mission Charlie poured himself into is not finished.

The fight for faith and freedom still lives on. And now it is our turn—yours and mine—to carry that torch forward. To live with that same courage, that same faith. To keep pointing this generation back to what matters most, our faith in God.

Charlie Kirk loved and trusted in Jesus Christ. He knew who his Savior was and wanted to be remembered, in his own words, “for the courage of his faith.” This was the legacy he aimed to leave behind: a faith that endures, a faith that stands strong even in the fire.

History shows us that no amount of human effort, political debate, or cultural shift—whether left or right—can heal a broken heart or restore peace to a divided nation. That is why we turn to God.

Today, let us choose to stand firm on the Word of God, refusing to be enslaved by our anger and fleeting emotions.

May our faith and submission to our heavenly Father guide us in allowing the Word to shape our thoughts, actions, and spiritual understanding as we pass the torch of truth and freedom to a new generation.

Today, as we mourn the loss of Charlie Kirk let’s lift our eyes to the heavens and know this—Charlie’s death is not the end of his story or the end of our story.

Let Us Pray

Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, our faith shaken by the recent murder of Charlie Kirk. He was a devoted follower and brother in Christ, a loving husband to Erika, a proud father who cherished his children, and a true American patriot.

We lift up his family in prayer, asking that they feel Your presence in their moments of sorrow. May Your Spirit whisper peace into their broken hearts. Comfort them in ways that no words that we could ever speak could comfort them and remind them that You are near.

For a grieving nation, in 2 Chronicles 7:14, You tell us, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

We stand on the solid rock, the foundation of God’s Word, as we offer our heartfelt prayers for our nation. In the days, weeks, months, and years ahead, as we navigate our recovery from this loss, please fill our journey with Your peace, our hearts with Your love, and our steps with Your presence.

Please grant eternal rest to Charlie Kirk, bring peace and comfort to his family, and extend mercy and healing to a grieving nation.

May Charlie Kirk’s legacy of faith, courage and freedom live on in all of us.

Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, we offer this prayer. Amen.
