Walking with Jesus — Day 3<h3>Leaving the Old Behind</h3>“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17Walking with Jesus means learning to leave the old behind.That is not always easy. We often cling to what is familiar, even when it is heavy. We carry old regrets, old failures, old wounds, old labels, and old ways of thinking as if they still have the right to define us. But the Word of God tells us something far greater: in Christ, we are made new.Jesus did not come simply to polish the outside of our lives. He came to transform us from the inside out. He takes guilt and replaces it with grace. He takes shame and gives freedom. He takes despair and fills us with hope. He takes the broken pieces of our past and reminds us that they no longer have the final word.We do not have to erase our past or pretend it never happened. Some of those experiences helped shape us. Some taught us hard lessons. Some left scars. But in Christ, we no longer have to live as prisoners of those old chapters.The old has passed away. The new has come.That means we can stop walking under yesterday’s condemnation and start walking in today’s grace. We can stop answering to the names the world gave us and begin living under the name Jesus has given us: redeemed, forgiven, restored, and made new.Walking with Jesus is not just a change in direction. It is a transformation of the heart, mind, and life. However, God requires us to take a leap of faith and to trust in His wisdom and His timing.True faith does not imply the absence of doubt. Rather, it manifests itself as a willingness to move toward Him despite those uncertainties. Each hesitant step we take reflects a heartfelt declaration: “Your Word is sufficient for me.”As we navigate through this journey, we find that the experiences we encounter serve as a profound classroom. We want confirmation, clarity, backup plans, and a little assurance that nothing uncomfortable is waiting around the bend. But walking with Jesus does not always work that way. Sometimes the Lord simply says, “Follow Me,” and the next act of faith is obedience.Anne and I live this every day. We do not get up in the morning, to do things for God, we get up and make ourselves available, so God can do things through us. We have no plans, no agendas, no other motives, other than to do His will.Faith is not pretending we have no questions, because we do, but faith is trusting God enough to move forward while we still have questions. It is placing our confidence not in what we can see, but in the character of the One who is leading us.That first step may not look dramatic to anyone else. It may be a prayer whispered in private, a decision to forgive, a call to serve, a door we finally walk through, or a burden we finally lay down.
