Walking with Jesus Devotion Controlling the Fire Within“A fool expresses all his emotions, but a wise person controls them.” Proverbs 29:11 - Reflection:Emotions are a beautiful gift from God. They are raw, real, and powerful. But like any gift, they need wisdom to guide them.We have all had those moments: a sharp word spoken in frustration, a reaction driven by hurt, or a response we wish we could take back. Proverbs 29:11 reminds us that wisdom is not found in denying our emotions, but in learning how to steward them under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.Think of emotions like fire. When tended wisely, fire provides warmth, light, and comfort. But left unchecked, it can burn and destroy. In the same way, our feelings can help us understand what is happening in our hearts, but they should never be allowed to take control of our tongue, our attitude, or our actions.God is not asking us to pretend we do not feel. He is inviting us to bring what we feel to Him first. In His hands, anger can become understanding. Hurt can become healing. Fear can become faith. Frustration can become patience. Every pause to pray gives grace room to work in us before our emotions do damage through us.Today, let us lean into God’s love and wisdom. True strength is not found in hiding what we feel. It is found in allowing the Spirit of God to shape how we respond.Prayer:Lord, help me bring my emotions to You before I give them control over me. Teach me to pause, pray, and respond with wisdom. Guard my tongue, soften my heart, and let Your Spirit guide my reactions today. Amen.

Walking with Jesus: The Lord’s Prayer

Daily Devotion - "Be encouraged—God’s faithfulness is unwavering." “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.” 2 Kings 20:5Have you ever received news that felt like the end of your story? One moment Hezekiah was leading a nation, the next he was facing death, turning his face to the wall as tears became his only prayer. The prophet's words still hung in the air: 'Put your house in order.' Final. Devastating. Hopeless.Yet, this moment invites us into the vulnerability of true faith. Hezekiah’s tears were not a sign of weakness, but of surrender—a heart laid bare before God. Often, we believe faith is about strength, but it is in our fragility and honesty that God draws near. Hezekiah’s story reminds us that God is not distant or indifferent to our pain. Instead, He is intimately present, attentive to every sigh, every tear, every whispered prayer. But between his tears and heaven's answer was only a courtyard's distance. Before Isaiah could even leave the palace grounds, God stopped him with words that would change everything: 'I have heard your prayer; I see your tears. I am with you.'Imagine the scene: the echo of Hezekiah’s sobs still lingering in the quiet corridors, Isaiah’s footsteps barely faded, when God intervenes. There is no delay in heaven’s compassion. The Lord’s response is immediate and deeply personal. He sees not just the king on his throne, but the man on his sickbed, overwhelmed and undone. God’s intervention is not transactional—it is relational, born out of love and mercy.Don't miss the tenderness here. The God who commands armies of angels notices tears. The One who holds the universe together pauses for a broken heart. He doesn't just see—He responds. He doesn't just hear—He moves. No committee meetings in heaven, no lengthy deliberations. Just pure love answering pain.Let this inspire you: every groan of your heart is precious to God. The Creator who painted the skies and set the stars in motion bends low to comfort you. His love is not abstract or far away—it is immediate, practical, and fiercely compassionate. Every tear you cry is treasured, every prayer you utter is heard.Maybe you're facing your own impossible today. Let this truth sink deep: the same God who noticed Hezekiah's tears is noticing yours. Your tears aren't wasted. Your prayers aren't ignored. Between your pain and His comforting response might only be a courtyard's distance.Be encouraged—God’s faithfulness is unwavering. When darkness feels overwhelming and hope seems lost, remember that God is already at work. He specializes in impossibilities, turning despair into deliverance, sorrow into strength. Trust that, even in your lowest moments, you are never alone.See less

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18Some pain feels unbearable—like a shadow that lingers long after the sun has set. There are seasons when you find yourself pacing hospital corridors, your heart pounding with worry for those you love. You wonder if the suffering will ever end—when the waiting feels endless, the prayers seem unanswered, and the weight of life presses in from all sides, threatening to crush your hope. But God sees you.Paul, who endured beatings, shipwrecks, imprisonment, and deep personal loss, knew suffering intimately. Yet, he boldly declares that our present struggles are nothing compared to the glory God is preparing for us. Not because suffering isn’t real—it cuts deep—but because it’s not the end of the story. God promises that what is coming is so radiant, so full of healing and joy, that our pain now will seem small in comparison.Pain isn’t the last chapter of your story—glory is. The hospital room, the difficult diagnosis, the ache of loss—these are real, but they are not the final word. God’s love writes a greater ending.Think about that. The things breaking you today—the phone calls that bring bad news, the tears you cry in secret, the exhaustion that settles into your bones—one day, these will only magnify the beauty of what God has done in you. Every trial, every tear, every silent prayer is being woven into a tapestry of grace, creating a testimony more powerful than you can imagine. And here’s the most incredible part: God isn’t just preparing something amazing for you—He’s preparing you for something amazing. Like gold refined in fire, your struggles are shaping you for a glory beyond compare. Each moment of waiting and every act of perseverance are molding you into someone who radiates the hope and compassion of Christ to a hurting world. So hold on. Keep trusting. One day, looking back, you’ll see that every moment of pain was not wasted—it became the soil where God’s glory grew. You will see beauty rise from the ashes.

You will see beauty rise from the ashes.

The Ghost TrailerNot today, devil. I’m not done fighting yet.The weight of the Carbondale ICU never truly leaves me.Every time I push through those heavy glass doors and step back into the outside world, part of it follows me. The beeping monitors. The smell of antiseptic. The whispered prayers. The grief of families standing in that hard space between hope and heartbreak.Today was no different. The afternoon heat hit me the moment I stepped outside. It felt close to 100 degrees, maybe hotter coming off the blacktop. My clothes were already damp from praying, walking, waiting, and carrying more than I wanted to admit. By the time I reached my car, the steering wheel was hot beneath my hands, and all I wanted was to get home. Then the highway tried to take me, too. Without warning, the car started fighting me. It swayed hard, back and forth, crossing toward the center line as oncoming traffic flashed by too close for comfort. I gripped the wheel with both hands, knuckles tight, heart pounding, trying not to overcorrect. I tapped the brakes carefully, forcing myself to stay calm. Then a warning flashed across the dashboard: "Trailer sway detected. Vehicle out of control. Reduce speed immediately."There was only one problem.I wasn’t pulling a trailer. No trailer. No load behind me. Just me, the road, and everything I had carried on my heart out of that ICU.Still, I listened. I eased off the gas and kept tapping the brakes until the speed dropped below 40 miles per hour. Almost immediately, the car settled. The swaying stopped. The road released its grip.I pulled onto the shoulder, gravel crunching beneath the tires, and sat there with both hands still locked on the wheel. For a moment, I didn’t move. I just breathed.I reset the controls. Checked what I could. Let my heart slow down. Let the silence remind me I was still here. Then I pulled back onto the road and headed home.A little shaken. A lot grateful. And fully aware that I had been given another tomorrow. Not today, devil. God's not done with me yet. PS - this morning, I asked many of you for prayers. Thank you for praying.

Today’s Daily Devotion Love First“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12Have you ever wished someone would see your struggle without you having to say a word?Maybe you needed patience when you were overwhelmed. Grace when you fell short. Kindness when you least deserved it. A gentle word when your heart was already carrying more than people knew. Now imagine if, instead of waiting for that kind of love, you gave it first. That is the radical beauty of Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:12: “Do to others what you would have them do to you.”We often call this the Golden Rule, but it is far more than a nice saying for polite people. It is a call to live like Jesus. It means choosing love when indifference would be easier. It means offering forgiveness when bitterness feels justified. It means showing patience when frustration is knocking at the door. It means seeing people not only as they are in their worst moments, but as God sees them — broken, yes, but still beloved. And isn’t that exactly what Christ did for us?He did not wait for us to be worthy. He loved first. He forgave first. He served first. He sacrificed first. The Golden Rule is not just about treating people well. It is about reflecting the heart of God. When we love first, we break the cycle of selfishness. When we serve first, we bring a glimpse of heaven into the ordinary places of earth. When we choose grace, we reveal Jesus to a world starving for Him.So today, do not wait for kindness. Initiate it.Do not hold back grace. Give it freely.Do not love because it has been earned. Love because Christ first loved you. When we live this way, we are not merely following a rule. We are walking in the footsteps of our Savior. The Lord be with you.
