She said she wanted to talk to me, but she was too intimidated…thought I looked “too important to approach.”I’ll be honest with you—that brought tears to my eyes. The idea that one of God’s children would hesitate to approach a shepherd who’s been called to serve her…that hit hard. No chaplain, no pastor, no servant of Christ should ever stand so tall that a weary soul feels too small.Because on Sunday—God had sent the exact opposite moment. During Sunday service, a preschooler slipped out of his parents’ grasp, and from the very back row came barreling toward me with his arms stretched wide. Thirty rows of believers between us, and that little boy never broke stride. He just leaped into my arms like I was his safe place. His parents were mortified.
